HAMPTON - Alvin L. Alston Sr., 63, of N. Lake Loop, died April 27, 1998, at 
alocal hospital. 

Born in Norfolk, Mr. Alston retired as a civil engineer from Langley Air 
Force Base. He was a member of Wesleyan Grove United Church of Christ, 
American Legion Post No. 190 and was past president of Sons of Norfolk. He 
was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam. 

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Alston ; two daughters, Tarnyal Alston and 
Anastacia Alston , both of Hampton; a stepdaughter, Tracey Walker of Newport 
News; three brothers, Robert J. Alston Jr. of Washington, D.C., Stewart H. 
Alston and Alexander M. Alston , both of Norfolk; three grandchildren; an 
aunt, Hattie H. Marshall, and her husband, Herbert A. Marshall, of Norfolk; 
an uncle, Clarence Alston of Norfolk; and a host of relatives and friends. 

He was predeceased by his father, the Rev. Robert J. Alston ; mother, Louise 
J. Alston ; and son, Alvin L. Alston Jr. 

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Union United Church of Christ by 
the Rev. Issac McDonald. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A wake service 
will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Graves Funeral Home. 
The family will assemble at 2422 Ludlow St. for the procession to the 
church.
