A native of Creswell, N.C., he had resided on the Southside 51 years. He was a son of Henry P. and Mrs. Rhoda Swain Ambrose. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Norfolk; Oakdale Lodge No. 70, IOOF, South Norfolk, and Berkley Camp No. 46, Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edith Thomas Ambrose; five daughters, Mrs. S.H. Dysart, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Miss Rhoda M. Ambrose and Mrs. Stephen E. Hanasik, both of South Norfolk; Mrs. M.A. Martinette, of Norfolk County, and Mrs. M.D. Kunze, of Hampton; two sons, Edmond G. Ambrose, of South Norfolk, and Birch V. Ambrose, USN, stationed in Norfolk; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body was removed to the Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
