Owner, Infantry Commander CHESAPEAKE - Edmond G. Ambrose, 71, owner-operator of Ambrose Farm & Industrial Co. of Virginia and North Carolina and former state commander of the 29th Division Association, died Monday in a Norfolk hospital. A lifelong resident of South Norfolk, he was a retired Army lieutenant colonel and World War II veteran. From 1961-63 he was post commander of the 176th Infantry. He was a member of the 29th Division Association and a life member of the 29th's 1st Virginia Regiment. He was a member of Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898 and Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, South Norfolk. Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Anne A. Jernigan, Mrs. Molly A. Perry, Mrs. Ruthie A. Sherman, and Mrs. Gayle F. Guard of Chesapeake, Mrs. Susan A. Stafford of Virginia Beach, and Miss Adair Ambrose of Norfolk; five sons, Edmond Ambrose of Sailview, Calif., William Ambrose of Virginia Beach, Joseph G. Ambrose of Oregon, W. Ward Neibuhr of Oakland, Calif., and M. Copel Ferebee of Chesapeake; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Laura Dysart of Roanoke, Mrs. Mary A. Martinette of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Frances A. Kunze of Newport News, and Mrs. Ruth A. Hanasik of Norfolk; a brother, Birch V. Ambrose of Norfolk; and 18 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Grimmer. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapter, in charge.
