Alice Barbara Ambrose, 79, died May 9, 2003 at DePaul Medical Center. 
Mrs. Ambrose was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and attended boarding school 
in London, England. At 21 she met her future husband, Birch Vaiden Ambrose on 
the beach in Rio. They were married for 50 years until he passed away in 1995. 
A retired insurance agent, Mrs. Ambrose was a devoted mother, grandmother, 
great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was known to those who loved her 
as "Maga." 
She is survived by her five children, Henry B. Ambrose and wife Marie of 
Norfolk, Thomas R. Ambrose of Satellite Beach, Fla., Robert J. Ambrose of 
Norfolk, John S. Ambrose and wife Kelli of Apex, N.C., and Deborah A. Beaudoin 
and husband Keith of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, Aaron James-Birch Ambrose, 
Alexis Marie Ambrose, Joseph Thomas Ambrose, Jacob Maurice Ambrose, and their 
mother Janice, Samuel Vaiden Ambrose, David Lee Ambrose and Zachary Keith 
Beaudoin; a great-grandchild, Jackson Birch Ambrose; a sister, Sheila 
Hildebrand of Savannah, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. 
A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South 
Norfolk chapel. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation 
will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
