James Ames, 87, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, was given final rites 
Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church where the Rev. J. W. Matthews officiated.

Mr. Ames, who lived at 636 Landing Street, died May 23 in a Veterans 
Administration hospital.  A lifelong Norfolk resident, he was a member of 
Antioch and of the Spanish American War Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alemia Ames;  and a brother, Henry Ames of 
New York.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Graves Funeral Home.
