Amoreno, 95, born July 30, 1915 in New York, N.Y., died Sept. 11, 2010. He was a World War II disabled veteran. He retired from the police force at the Norfolk Naval Base in 1973 and from the City of Virginia Beach as a golf course equipment mechanic in 1980. He was a member of the St. Matthew's Men's Club, the DAV No. 26, the Police Association of Virginia, the Knights of Columbus No. 10601 and No. 1162, the Alhambra Padul 69, and the South Norfolk Seniors Club. He is predeceased by his wife, Frances Amoreno. Survivors include four children, Frances Walker, Mickey and Bonnie Amoreno, Tom Amoreno and Jane Caldwell, and Jane Amoreno; 11 grandchildren, Susan, Ric and Joey Spears, Bill Walker, Frank, Carla, Marissa and Megan Walker, Mike, Rayna, Ruth and AJ Amoreno, Sandra, Steve, Tucker, Genny and Roan Weber, PJ Amoreno and Sam Kenkel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A wake will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
