NORFOLK - Gurney Columbus Anderson, 78, of 739 Windsor Ave. died Saturday in a
hospital after a short illness.

A native of Hertford County, N.C., he was a son of Alonzo and Mrs. Lorraine Anderson
and husband of Mrs. Carrie Beverly Anderson.

He formerly worked for Virginia Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Mechanical Engineering
Co., was a member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church and a director of Fifth
Precinct Civic League.

Besides his widow, surviving are two sons, Cleveland G. Anderson and Leon J.
Anderson of Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia A. Watson, Mrs. Bernice A.
Dickinson of Washington and Mrs. Adella Staton of Norfolk; a brother, Zanie Anderson
of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Hart and Miss Doris Anderson of Suffolk; five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion
Church by the Rev. R.A. Councill. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Riddick
Funeral Service in charge.
