Virginian-Pilot, September 15, 1873
DEATH OF JNO. ANDERSON, ESQ.--We are called on to note today the very sudden 
death of this gentleman from apoplexy, which occurred yesterday morning at 2 & 
1/2 o'clock, at his residence, near the old Fair Grounds. Mrs. Anderson had 
been complaining for several days of feeling unwell, but his illness was not of 
such a nature as to require him to take to his bed. On Saturday night, however, 
he was struck with apoplexy, which in a few hours resulted in death. Mr. 
Anderson was a native of Scotland, but for many years has been a resident of 
this city. He was one of our most useful citizens, and was respected by all for 
his integrity of purpose and uprightness of character. His funeral is announced 
to take place this morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Church. The St. 
Patrick's Society, of which the deceased was an honorary member, as also the 
sister societies of the two cities, will attend the funeral services in regalia.
