Andrews, former Norfolk Deputy Chief of Police passed away on Wed., Jan. 7, 2004 in a local hospital. He was the son of the late Royal Hamilton Andrews and Annie Vaughan Andrews of Crewe, Va. After his father's death, his mother along with her six children moved to Norfolk where he graduated from Maury High School, attended O. D. U., and graduated from the F.B.I. National Training Academy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict and joined the Norfolk police force in 1950. During his 37 years on the force he served as an investigator for the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, he commanded the youth division, the 4th Patrol Division, Detective Division, and served in 1985 as interim Chief of Police before retiring in 1987. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Graham Myers Andrews; a son, John L. "Andy" Andrews and his wife, Terry; two grandsons, Kenton "Skeeter" Graham Andrews and Ian Stuart Andrews all of Smithfield, Va.; two sisters, Frances Hicks of Virginia Beach and Irene Norton of Frostproof, Fla.; a brother, R.C. Andrews of Frostproof, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk by Pastor Randy Green. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norfolk Police Museum, 100 Brooke Ave., Norfolk, VA 23510 or to the Harvest Fellowship Baptist Mission Building Fund, 14538 Benn's Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430.
