Mr. Archer was a native of Norfolk and had been retired from the Norfolk City School Board for 24 years after 45 years of service. He was the widower of Ocie Pharr Archer and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street. He was assistant superintendent of the church school and was a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for more than 60 years. He held various offices in the Kit Kat Social Club and the Broad Creek Progressive Civic League. He was the Man of The Year of First Baptist Church and the Man of The Year for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly A. Overby of Washington, D.C.; two sons, O'Hara Archer of New York and Dr. Lorenzo P. Archer of Virginia Beach; a sister, Ella Saunders of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, by Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will assemble at 2615 Myrtle Ave. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
