Virginian Pilot November 1, 1961

                     W. L. Armstrong, 88, Former Tug Skipper

William Leon Armstrong, 88, of 810 Westover Ave., retired tugboat captain, died 
Tuesday at 4 a.m. in a Norfolk Nursing home.
A native of Great Bridge, he lived in this area all his life.
Until retirement he skippered tugs for the former Wood Towing Co. He was a 
member of the Masters, Mates & Pilots Association and had been active on the 
Norfolk waterfront for nearly 60 years.
He was a son of Nathaniel and Mrs. Eugenia Portlock Armstrong.
Surviving is a son, William E. Armstrong of Norfolk. 
A funeral service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Thursday at 1 
p.m., with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

4 a.m., William Leon Armstrong, son of the late Nathaniel and Mrs. Eugenia 
Portlock Armstrong, in the 89th year of his age.  Services at the H. D. Oliver 
Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock.  
Friends of the family are invited to attend.  Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
