L. Armstrong, 88, Former Tug Skipper William Leon Armstrong, 88, of 810 Westover Ave., retired tugboat captain, died Tuesday at 4 a.m. in a Norfolk Nursing home. A native of Great Bridge, he lived in this area all his life. Until retirement he skippered tugs for the former Wood Towing Co. He was a member of the Masters, Mates & Pilots Association and had been active on the Norfolk waterfront for nearly 60 years. He was a son of Nathaniel and Mrs. Eugenia Portlock Armstrong. Surviving is a son, William E. Armstrong of Norfolk. A funeral service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Thursday at 1 p.m., with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. *********** ARMSTRONG, WILLIAM LEON - At a local nursing home, Tuesday, October 31, 1961, at 4 a.m., William Leon Armstrong, son of the late Nathaniel and Mrs. Eugenia Portlock Armstrong, in the 89th year of his age.
