Virginian-Pilot July 19, 1947
William Rankin Armstrong, 60, husband of Sarah A. Armstrong and son of the late 
William R. and Josephine Holmes Armstrong, died at his residence, 713 Redgate 
Avenue, last night at 9:30 o’clock. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, 
Robert M. and William R. Armstrong, III; a sister, Mrs. Annie Armstrong Butler; 
two half-sisters, Mrs. Robert Milner and Mrs. Herbert Frack, and a grandson, 
Robert M. Armstrong, Jr, all of Norfolk. Mr. Armstrong was a lifelong resident of 
Norfolk and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home tomorrow at 
2 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
