A native of South Norfolk, she was the daughter of the Charles A. and Mary Margaret Pierce Harrell and wife of the late Grover Glenward Smith and Henry Wilson Armstrong. She was also preceded in death by a twin son, twin great- grandsons, a sister and four brothers. For many years she worked as the branch manager of Howard Cleaners located in South Norfolk, followed by several years as a clerk at Irwin's Pharmacy. A member of South Norfolk Baptist Church, she was Past Noble Grand of the South Norfolk Rebecca Lodge and member of the Past Noble Grand Club, Daughters of America, LAPM of Norfolk, Friendship Chapter No. 57, Order of the Eastern Star, Niners Senior Citizens Club, First Senior Citizens Club, and the Redhatters. Surviving are a daughter, Linda S. Hall and her husband M.T. of Moyock; a son, Bonnie R. Smith and wife Marie of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Kirk Smith, Karen Patzer and her friend Randy Prosser, Kim Vail and her husband Scott, Michael Rawls and his wife Lisa, Kristi Zittle and her husband Steve, Angela Strubbe and her husband Steve, Michelle Wright and her husband Chris, and Lynn Hall; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with Pastor David E. Slayton officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Her family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice and the wonderful staff at Sentara Village, Oak Grove, who had become her extended family over the past six years.
