W. B. ASHBURN DIES AT HIS HOME Prominent Physician of South Norfolk Had Been Ill For Ten Days Dr. William Beauregard Ashburn, aged 61 years, a practicing physician for 36 years and a native of Nansemond County, died at his home, Chesapeake and Ohio Avenues, South Norfolk, yesterday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock after an illness of ten days. Dr. Ashburn enjoyed the confidence of a large number of friends and patients. Despite his busy life he was congenial and was very generous to the unfortunates. He was never known to refuse to render service when called upon. For the last several years his practice had grown to such an extent that he was unable to meet all the demands and his son, Dr. Horace Ashburn, was called in as his associate. To his crowded life his general breakdown in health during the last two or three years is partly attributed. Dr. Ashburn had practiced in this community for the last quarter of a century. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia and served as an intern in the Retreat for the Sick, in Richmond. He served as health officer in Berkley when it was a part of the county and later as physician to the county almshouse. He was also health officer in South Norfolk for a term. At the time of his death he was physician to the Relief Association maintained by the men of the Virginia Railway and Power Company, in South Norfolk. Dr. Ashburn was a son of the late Peter Ashburn and Mrs. Elnora Gay Ashburn. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Geneva Godwin Ashburn, daughter of Mills Godwin, of Chuckatuck, Nansemond County, and two sons, Dr. Horace G. Ashburn and William B. Ashburn, Jr.; two brothers, J. Walter Ashburn, Tarboro, N.C. and Richard M. Ashburn, Suffolk and one sister, Mrs. Lafayette Rawls, Carrsville, Va. He was a member of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church, Chesapeake Tribe, No. 50, I.O.R.M., Tidewater Council, No. 30, Jr. O.U.A.M., Lee Lodge, No. 48, I.O.O.F., and Knights of the Maccabees. The funeral services will be conducted in the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. Beecher L. Rhodes. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
