A native of Myrtle, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Luzetta Ashburn and a son of the late Joseph and Celia Ashburn. He was a member of the Trustee Board of New Calvary Baptist Church and was maintenance man eight years. He also was a member of the Pythians. Surviving are nine daughters, Mrs. Jennie Smith of Cleveland, Mrs. Winfred Britt of Ivor, Mrs. Celia Freeman, Mrs. Luzetta Stewart, Mrs. Gwendolyn Crawford, Mrs. Beverly Burt, Mrs. Ruth McCrae, Mrs. Marlene Smith, and Mrs. Carlesta King of Norfolk; three sons, Floyd O. Ashburn and Merritt Ashburn of New York and Wayman Ashburn of Portsmouth; a brother, Harold Ashburn of Chesapeake and 47 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A funeral service was held in New Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Milton A. Reid. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Riddick Funeral service in charge.
