Norfolk Virginian September 17, 1893
Mrs. Virginia D. Ashley, mother of Mr. William G. Ashley, died at the Retreat for 
the Sick yesterday morning at 8:30 o’clock. The deceased suffered a stroke of 
paralysis some months ago, from which she never recovered.
She had reached the age of 68 years and for a long time had been a most consistent 
member of the Freemason Street Baptist Church. Her funeral will take place this 
afternoon from the residence of her son, Mr. W. G. Ashley, No. 14 Reservoir 
avenue, Brambleton.
