Norfolk - William Henry Ashlin, 74, passed away Aug. 12, 1997, in Sentara Leigh 
Hospital.

Mr. Ashlin was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Birkenhead, England, son of the late William 
Henry and Margaret Bowe Ashlin. He attended St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a 
retired first-class machinist for Lonestar Inc.

He served in the British Homeguard and the Merchant Marine on Atlantic convoys 
during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 327, Norfolk.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence R. 
and John J. Ashlin.

He is survived by a loving son, John Raymond Ashlin of Birkenhead; granddaughter, 
Laura Kate Ashlin of West Kirby, England; sister-in-law, Nellie Ashlin; four 
nieces, Jenny Abrigo, Maggie Padilla, Sidney Lyons and Mary Kramer; two nephews, 
Michael Ashlin and Richard Ashlin; longtime companion of 28 years, Retha Parker 
and a host of friends and relatives.

Mr. Ashlin was a very loving and devoted man who will be sadly missed and 
cherished for life everlasting. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 
p.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A Mass of the Resurrection will be 
celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father William 
J. Dale officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception 
following the burial will be held at the Ashlin home, 2505 Little Creek Road, Apt. 
9, Norfolk.
