Askew, an esteemed citizen and member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp, died at the residence of his mother, No. 244 Freemason street, Tuesday evening at 8:15 o’clock. Mr. Askew enlisted in the Sixty-First Virginia Regiment April 19th, 1861, and was detailed as blacksmith in the Ordnance Department of the Navy at Richmond, and so continued until the close of the war. His funeral will take place from the Cumberland street M. E. Church this afternoon at 3 o’clock, and will be attended by Pickett-Buchanan Camp. Mr. Askew’s funeral thus takes place on the twenty- seventh anniversary of his enlistment in the service of his State.
