Norfolk Journal and Guide, Mar 16, 1963
Ivory L. Askew of 1925 E. Liberty street, Chesapeake, a retired Norfolk Southern 
Railroad brakeman who served the company 35 years, received final rites Sunday 
at St. Joseph’s AME Zion Church.

The Rev. E. L. Coleman, pastor of St. Joseph’s, officiated.  Burial was in Mt. 
Olive Cemetery under direction of Pretlow’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Askew, who died in a Norfolk hospital March 5, is survived by a sister, Mrs. 
Ida Herring of Norfolk and two brothers, William and Luther Askew, also of 
Norfolk.
