NORFOLK - Mary Cary Johnston Atkinson, 69, of the 1000 block of North Shore 
Road, died January 1, 1988, in her home.
Mrs. Atkinson, a native of Norfolk, was a member of the Episcopal Church of the 
Good Shepherd. She had been a volunteer worker at Sentara Norfolk General for 
more than 35 years and was a member of the board of Medical Center Hospitals.
Survivors include her husband, Dunwoody Atkinson; a daughter, Mary C. Monet of 
Norfolk; two sons, Thomas Morgan Johnston, Jr., of Norfolk and John Ardell 
Johnston of Dunn, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Arlene A. Hull of Norfolk, 
Margaret A. Olsen of Jacksonville, Florida., and Joan A. Grein of Topeka, 
Kansas; a stepson, Dean D. Atkinson, III, of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; 
11 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Episcopal Church of the Good 
Shepherd by the Rev. Ross M. Wright. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. H.D. 
Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
