Norfolk - Charles Andrew Atkinson, 98, died on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, in his home 
with his loving family by his side. Born in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late 
Spicer and Mary Crabtree Atkinson. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a 
Master Boat Builder after 31 years of service and was a US Army veteran of WWII.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Charlotte Sochor of Norfolk; Charles 
A.(Butch) Atkinson Jr., Thomas Michael(Mike) Atkinson(Susan), 6 grandchildren, 11 
great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his 
wife of 63 years, Ann Cunningham Atkinson, son, Joseph, sister, Margaret Row, 
brothers, Aaron Lanier, Robert and George Atkinson.
He was a long time member of the Ocean View Democratic and Social Club and 
American Legion Post 327.
A visitation with family and friends will be at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver 
Funeral Apts. on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9:00 p.m. A Graveside funeral service 
will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 25th in St. Mary's Cemetery. A 
reception will follow at Knights of Columbus 367, 5201 Kennebeck Ave.
