A funeral service was held recently at Jerusalem Baptist Church for Mrs. 
Mamie D. Atwater of 1340 W. 43rd street who served 35 years as a beautician 
at a shop at 542 Church street which bore her name.

The service was conducted by the Rev. H. W. B. Walker and burial was in 
Calvary Cemetery under direction of Hale Funeral Home.

A native of Brunswick County, VA, Mrs. Atwater had lived in Norfolk 50 
years. She was ill for only a short period.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Blanche Patterson; a brother, William 
Thornton of New York; a niece, Mrs. Sophronia Craft, also of New York; and 
three nephews, William Thornton, William Thornton 3rd and Reginald Craft.
