Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered at The Laurels of Charlottesville on Feb. 24, 2007, to celebrate her long life. Cordelia Austin was an artist who appreciated beauty in all its manifestations, paintings, furniture, nature, people. She loved music and could recite reams of poetry. Up until the end, she was mentally sharp and enjoyed visits and board games with family and friends. Mrs. Austin was the last survivor of the six children of Edmund S. Ruffin and Cordelia Byrd Ruffin formerly of Norfolk. She is survived by her three children, Cordelia M. Plunkett of Ruckersville, Va., Thomas J. Michie of Charlottesville and Emily M. Gennari of Colchester, Vt., and by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Hospice of the Piedmont, Suite 200, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation for all the loving care given to Mrs. Austin at The Laurels of Charlotesville in the last years of her life. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Cemetery on Princess Anne Road in Norfolk.
