Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, June 8, 1997 
Mary M. Avery, 84, of the 1300 block of Lead St. died June 4, 1997, in her
residence of natural causes.

A housekeeping supervisor at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for 30 years, she
retired in 1977. She was a Monroe, N.C., native, the widow of Albert Avery and a
member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Albert G.W. Avery of Norfolk; sister, Minnie Bell Wood
of Cleveland, N.C.; brother, J.T. Steele of Cleveland, N.C.; and grandchildren,
Albert Moore of Virginia Beach, Angela Bibbins of Norfolk, Craig Avery of
Carrboro, N.C., Fletcher Moore of Monroe, Wash., Valeria Sanderlin of Norfolk
and Stephanie Avery of Norfolk.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Y. Moore of Norfolk; and her mother,
Caroline McHenry of Cleveland, N.C.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by Bishop Clarence V. Russell Jr.
in Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The funeral
will leave from 1302 Lead St. The body will be placed in state at 11 a.m.
Monday. A wake service will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today. Hale Funeral Home is
in charge.
