"Buck" Ayers Sr., 84, died March 5, 2003, in Virginia Beach. He was born in Norfolk, attended Norfolk Public Schools, and was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He retired as general superintendent of Lamberts Point Docks, a division of Norfolk Southern Railroad. Mr. Ayers was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Khedive Shrine Temple, and a charter member and 50-year member of Norview Masonic Lodge, No. 113, AF&AM. His Masonic activities included service as captain of the Khedive Shrine Color Guard and as a volunteer supporter of Norview Chapter, International Order of DeMolay. He will be remembered as a loving and caring father, grandfather and husband; for his strong Christian Faith; for his unselfishness and sociable ways; and for his many, many acquaintances. He was a friend to everyone he met. He is survived by his son, Allen Ayers and Allen’s wife, Becky, of Williamsburg, Va.; and by two grandchildren, William and Leigh. His first cousin, Lucille Lucido of Hampton, also survives him. His parents, William J. and Betty L. Ayers, predeceased him, as did his wife of over 59 years, Mildred R. Ayers. A funeral will be held on Monday at Trinity Baptist Church of Norfolk at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Charles H. Riggs and Dr. Robert Y. Sandford. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church.
