Ayers, 80, died Feb. 2, 2000, in Norfolk. She was born in Lewiston-Woodville, N.C., and was a retired assistant general registrar with the city of Norfolk. She attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Maury High School, Norfolk. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, Norfolk. She will be remembered for her unselfishness and loving ways and her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William A. "Buck" Ayers; a son, Allen Ayers and his wife, Becky, of Williamsburg; and two grandchildren, William and Leigh Ayers. She was predeceased by her parents, Edgar R. and Bettie T. Reese. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Charles H. Riggs. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church of Norfolk.
