The Norfolk Virginia Pilot Monday January 10, 1944
John Bacchus, aged 80, died suddenly at the residence of Mrs. T.C. Bastian, 
1450 West Twenty-seventh street, Saturday night at 10 o'clock. He was a native 
of Jamestown, St. Helena Island, and had resided in Norfolk for the past 50 
years. 
He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, having served in the United 
States Navy, and was a member of Fleet Reserve Association No. 5.
Funeral services will be conducted at the James V. Derry Funeral Chapel Tuesday 
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
