NORFOLK - Linwood "Lannie" Backers, 83, of the 2400 block of E. Virginia Beach 
Blvd., passed away Dec. 13, 2005, at Chesapeake General Hospital. Linwood was 
born June 6, 1922, to the late Carrie and Henry Backers in Norfolk. He was 
educated in the Norfolk Public School System and was a member of Guiding Light 
Apostolic Church of Christ, Portsmouth. He retired from E.V. Williams & Co. as a 
truck driver after 25 years of service. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Neolus Backers; one stepson, Eugene 
Hodges; two sisters, Elsie Miller and Ida Mae Alston, all of Norfolk; and a host 
of other relatives and friends. 

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral 
Service, 7246 Granby St., with Bishop Alfred P. Bolden officiating. Interment 
will be at Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 2412 
E. Virginia Beach Blvd. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the 
chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at
