             Bruce F. Backus, Produce Dealer, Dies, Aged 43

Bruce Franklin Backus, 43, son of Mrs. Pearl Stant Backus and the late B. 
Thurman Backus, died at a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 3:35 p.m. He was a 
lifelong resident of Norfolk, residing at 1002 Magnolia Ave. at the time of his 
death.
Besides his wife Mrs. Marion Smith Backus, he is survived by two sons, Bruce F. 
Backus Jr. and Brian Eugene Backus; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Backus Nelson; 
one grandson, John Brockman Nelson and his mother, Mrs. Pearl Stant Backus, all 
of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Doris Backus Brock, of Princess Anne County and an 
uncle, James R. Backus of New York.
Mr. Backus was a farmer and produce merchant.
Funeral services will be conducted at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments 
tomorrow at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Claude F. Moseliff, pastor of Colonial Avenue 
Methodist Church and the Rev. Stuart Grizzard, pastor of the First Baptist 
Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

BACKUS, BRUCE FRANKLIN - At a local hospital, Thursday, September 6, 1956, at 
3:35 p.m., BRUCE FRANKLIN BACKUS, son of Mrs. Pearl Stant Backus and the late B. 
Thurman Backus, in the 44th year of his age. Services at the H. D. Oliver 
Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, SATURDAY AFTERNOON at 2 o’clock. 
Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, Elmwood cemetery.
