Backus, 1019 Brandon Avenue, yesterday morning at 4:54 o'clock after an illness of nine months. She was the daughter of the late William Elias and Elizabeth Parsons, a native of Princess Anne County and a resident of Norfolk for more than 50 years. She was the widow of Benjamin Franklin Backus and is survived by four sons, A.C., B.T. and A.G. Backus, all of Norfolk and J.R. Backus of Port Chester, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Bruce F. and Miss Doris Virginia Backus, of Norfolk and Benjamin F. and Alpheus Peck Backus, of Port Chester; a sister, Mrs. Emmett Compton, of Norfolk and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Brother, 631 Westover Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. H.P. Myers, pastor of Park Place Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Backus was a member, and the Rev. P. Rowland Wagner, pastor of Central Baptist Church, will officiate.
