Norfolk Virginian Pilot November 17, 1944

T. Herbert Backus, 77, son of the late Richard T. and Mrs. Ann Susan Taylor 
Backus, died at a local hospital yesterday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock. He was a 
native of Norfolk and had resided in Baltimore for a number of years. He is 
survived by six nieces, Mrs. John Upton, Mrs. B.T. Widgeon, Mrs. Fred Lambert, 
Mrs. Lee Whitehurst, Mrs. C.O. Santos and Mrs. Janette Boudro Miller, all of 
Norfolk; and six nephews, B.T., A.G. and R.E. Backus, E.L. Vanderberry, Charles 
Boudro, all of Norfolk; and J.R. Backus, of New York. Funeral services will be 
held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow afternoon at 
3:30 o'clock with the Rev. W.C. Gunn, D.D., officiating. Interment will be in 
Elmwood Cemetery.

o’clock p.m., T. HERBERT, son of the late Richard T. and Mrs. Ann Susan Taylor 
Backus, in the 78th year of his age. Services at the chapel of the H. D. Oliver 
Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 Colonial Avenue, SATURDAY AFTERNOON at 3:30 
o’clock. 
Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
