BACKUS, PROMINENT TRUCKER, DIES He Was Well Known In The County--Leaves Many Connections Benjamin F. Backus, a resident of Norfolk and a well-known trucker, died at the Protestant Hospital at 2 o'clock yesterday morning after a lingering illness in the 59th year of his age. The deceased was widely known and highly esteemed in this city and section. He is survived by a widow and four sons, A.C., R.T., A.G. and J.R. Backus, all of Norfolk; three brothers, J.W. Backus of Norfolk, V.J. Backus of Edgewater and Herbert T. Backus of Baltimore; also three sisters, Mrs. W.J. Vanderberry of Larchmont, Mrs. Henry Wilder and Mrs. Charles Boudro, both of Norfolk. The funeral will be held from LeKies Memorial Methodist Church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. Dr. J.A. Thomas of Cumberland Street Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. J.L. Bray of Zion Methodist Episcopal Church and Rev. Charles H. Galloway of LeKies Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church. The interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
