Virginian Pilot January 16, 1980

Mrs. Verna Stant Backus, 88, formerly of 901 Spotswood Ave., the widow of A. 
Greenwood Backus, died Tuesday in a hospital.
She was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and was a member of Park Place 
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two nieces, Mr. Doris Brock and Mrs. Barbara Pope and a 
nephew, Frederick T. Stant Jr., all of Virginia Beach.; and great-nieces and 
great-nephews.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. 
Woodrow W Giles.  H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments has charge.
