Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark June 12, 1933
Mrs. Sarah Victoria Backus, aged 80, widow of A.J. Backus and daughter of the 
late John and Sarah Grice Holland, died at her residence, 1311 Mallory court, 
last night at 8:25 o'clock.  Mrs. Backus was a native of Norfolk County and her 
entire life has been spent in this section.  She was a consistent member of 
Ghent Methodist Episcopal Church, and was well known.  She is survived by one 
daughter, Mrs. E.S. Hutchinson, Jr., of Norfolk; a son, J. Holland Backus, of 
Long Island; five grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. T.G. Harman, of Norfolk.  
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
