The Virginian-Pilot, Tuesday, October 11, 1960
NORFOLK - Melvin Bacote, 41, died Saturday at 11 p.m. at his home, 732 Mozart 
St., after short illness.

Son of the Rev. James Bacote Sr. and the late Louvenia Bacote of Carlington, 
S.C., he lived in Norfolk 20 years. He was employed by Dean Van Lines.

Surviving besides his father are his widow, Mrs. Viola Bacote; two sisters, Mrs. 
Mamie Lee Carter and Mrs. Beulah Brooks of Brooklyn, N.Y., and four brothers, 
Jeremiah Bacote and Joseph Bacote of Baltimore, James Bacote Jr. of Brooklyn and 
Onslow Bacote of Boston.

A funeral service will be held in Citizen's Funeral Home at 1 p.m. by the Rev. 
E.W. Judge of St. James AME Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
