He was 92. Mr. Baecher, a native of Frederick County, Va., practiced law in Norfolk from 1922 to 1986, and was certified to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a 1917 graduate of Maury High School and a 1922 graduate of the Catholic University of America Law School. He was a member of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar and the American Bar Association. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 367 and American Legion Post 35. Mr. Baecher had served as secretary-treasurer of the James Barry Robinson Home for Boys from 1933 to 1980. He was a former board member of the Lay Advisory Board of DePaul Medical Center and was one of the original commissioners of the Hampton Roads Sanitation Commission. He was a former president of the Izaak Walton League of America and was a former director of the organization. He helped create Seashore State Park. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and was the widower of Cecelia Cashin Baecher. Survivors include three sons, John J. Baecher, Jr., of Goldens Bridge, N.Y., Cecil C. Baecher, of Roanoke, and Michael C. Baecher, of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church by the Revs. Bonaventure Medlia and Joseph P. Lehman. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A wake will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk. Friends may join the family at 1921 Foxhound Lane. Memorial donations may be made to the John A. Baecher and John J.
