Funeral Notice: April 20, 1913, Virginian-Pilot

The funeral of H. Boswell Bagnall was held at the First Presbyterian Church,
Ghent, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, of which he had been one of its leading
members for many years. There was an immense audience present, composed of his
friends, as a tribute of esteem to his memory, including a large number of
members of the public schools of Norfolk, by whom he was loved and admired for
the interest he had for so many years manifested in them as a citizen and member
of the Norfolk school board. The board attended the obsequies in a body, many
other school officials, principals and teachers in schools being also present.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. D. N. McLaughlin, D. D., of the Second
Presbyterian Church, in the absence of the pastor from the city, Rev. Stuart Nye
Hutchison. During the obsequies the children of the Bonney Home, of which Mr.
Bagnall was a director, who were present, sang "Asleep in Jesus."

The floral display was one of the most magnificent ever witnessed at a funeral
in Norfolk, including many designs sent by the various public schools of the
city, the school board sending a standing wreath of orchids and lilies of the
valley, and Pocahontas Council, Royal Arcanum, of which he was a member, sending
a wreath of ferns.

Owens Lodge of Masons, of which he was a past master, and Pocahontas Council,
Royal Arcanum, of which he was a past regent, were in attendance as a mark of
esteem to their deceased member.

The interment was in Elmwood cemetery, the casket being handled by six colored men.

The following were the honorary pall-bearers: Captain John L. Roper, Fred
Greenwood, R. A. Dobie, Major R. C. Taylor, R. W. Santos, James C. Tait, Captain
W. C. Whittle, Captain B. P. Loyall, John B. Jenkins, J. Leighton Hubard, H. H.
Trice, M. W. Talbot.

. . . April 19, 1913 - Resolutions deploring the death of Mr. Bagnall were
adopted at a special meeting of the schoold board yesterday afternoon. The board
will meet again this afternoon to attend the funeral
