Bailey, who died June 26, after an illness of two months, were held June 29, at the First Baptist Church, Bute Street, where she was a member. The pastor, the Rev. R. H. Bowling eulogized the young college student. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Bailey of 2725 Broad Creek road. Miss Bailey had completed two years of college work at Hampton Institute and had just begun her junior year when she was stricken with the illness which proved fatal. She began her early training in the public school system of Hampton, during which time she studied music under her aunt, Mrs. Neolus Bailey Pierce, but completed both elementary and high school work in Norfolk, her native city. During four years in high school she was a member of the choral club and the Con-ge-ne-mill Quartet. She entered Hampton in 1941, and was a member of the Colliope Literary Society, the Student Council, and the Hampton Choir. Gifted with a naturally congenial disposition the young student gained many friends of the institute. Besides her parents and aunt, she is survived by two brothers, John Jr., and James Bailey; a sister, Miss Marion L. Bailey; two other aunts, Misses Louise and Lillian Bailey of Hampton; and two uncles, George Bailey of Hampton and James A. Bailey of New York, NY.
