Norfolk Virginian April 21, 1896
Mrs. C. O. Baker, who resides at No. 277 Church street, extended, awoke yesterday 
morning to find her five-month’s-old child dead in the bed beside her.
Being anxious to know if the child had died from unnatural causes, Mrs. Baker 
applied to Justice A. H. Hawkes for an investigation. The Justice empannelled a 
jury, consisting of Messrs. R. H. Stevens, M. G. Lennon, George Robinson, C. 
Moriety, J. J. Ransone, W. T. Stevens and J. S. Carmine. The jury returned a 
verdict of death from causes unknown to the jury.
