Mr. Baker, a native of Arapahoe, N.C., was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Sidney Baker and widower of Maude Hudson Baker. He retired as a machinist's helper from W.L. Shepard Company, and served in the European Theater during World War I. A devoted member of First Calvary Baptist Church, he served on the usher board and worked as a teller. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Prince Hall Masons, Rising Sun Lodge (NU)2 and a lifetime member of the NAACP. Survivors include one daughter, Lillie B. Saunders of Chesapeake, and a son, Clifton E. Baker of Norfolk; four grandsons, George G. Saunders Jr. and Eugene L. Saunders of Chesapeake, Edward B. Saunders of San Jose, Calif., and Darryl K. Saunders of Dayton, Ohio; five great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 7, 1995, at 12 noon by the Rev. Charles Springs at First Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery . The family will assemble at 2739 Beachmont Ave. at 11:15 a.m. for the processional to the church.
