One of six children, Sallie was the daughter of two Irish immigrants, the late Joseph McPhillips formerly of County Monaghan and the late Sarah Finn McPhillips formerly of County Armagh. Sallie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Aylett Goodwin Baker formerly of Newport News. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Genevieve McPhillips Caulfield, Mary McPhillips Reilly and Kathleen McPhillips Falls, as well as a brother, John Vincent McPhillips. She is survived by one child, John Patrick Baker and his wife Anne Marshall. Sallie is also survived by her three beautiful grandchildren, John Goodwin Baker, Robert Joseph Baker and Sarah Marshall Baker; her brother, Terence Joseph McPhillips; and by many beloved nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy where she served as class president her senior year. She was a member of Sacred Heart and Blessed Sacrament Catholic churches, a member of St. Anne's Circle, and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent dePaul. The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Place of DePaul for their dedicated care and a special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Claudine Ward. A joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be said today at 2 p.m. by Father Joseph H. Metzger III at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be private at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments in Norfolk.
