Baker, 102, of the 7400 block of Dakota Ave., died Aug. 10, 2002, in her home. She was born in Southampton County Feb. 20, 1900. She was married to the late George T. Baker Sr. and shared with him the nurturing of 12 children. She was a dedicated member and ``Mother'' of First Baptist Church Logan Park serving on several committees. Survivors include five sons, John Baker Sr. and wife Eunice, William Baker, Kenneth Baker and wife Prestine, Roger Baker, Carter Baker and wife Shirley; a devoted daughter, Myrtle Person; two sons-in-law, Everett Jones and Calvin Alston; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice Massey; special daughter, Mattie Bruton; 36 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Her sons, George, James and Pernell, along with daughters, Ida, Marie and Oclee, predeceased her. A funeral will be held at noon Friday at First Baptist Church Logan Park, Norfolk, by Pastor George Spicer. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk. Viewing at Hale Funeral Home will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
