He was the husband of Mrs. FRANCES BERNARD COUPER BALDWIN and the son of the late Dr. WILLIAM THOMAS BALDWIN and Mrs. SARAH STILES BALDWIN. He was 69 years old. He was the owner of Baldwin and Company, cotton brokers. He was a native of Fayetteville, Tenn and had lived in Norfolk since 1909. He graduated from Trinity College, now Duke University, in 1906 and did post graduate work at Yale University in 1907. For the last 43 years, he had been active in the cotton business in Norfolk, with present offices in the Cotton Exchange Building. He was a member of St Andrew's Episcopal Church, Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, National Council of Duke University, Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and the American Cotton Linter Association. Surviving besides his wife, are 1 daughter, Miss MARJORIE COUPER BALDWIN of Norfolk; 3 sons, RUFUS GUY BALDWIN JR and LT Colonel JOHN D. COUPER BALDWIN of the United States Army, Norfolk and FRANCIS COUPER BALDWIN of Richmond; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. BESSIE SHELTON of Van Nuys, Ca. and Mrs. FRANK TAYLOR of Franklin, Tenn.; 3 brothers, SAMUEL T. BALDWIN of Nashville, Tenn., WILLIAM T. BALDWIN of Fayetteville, Tenn. and Dr. JAMES C. BALDWIN of Pensacola, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home, 631 Westover Avenue, corner Manteo Street, Friday, January 16, 1953 at 12:00 pm by the Rev BEVERLEY TUCKER WHITE, rector of St Andrews Episcopal Church. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: JOHN SUMMERFIELD JENKINS, CALVIN S. WHITEHURST, JUDGE RICHARD B. SPINDLE JR, HO RACE P. ROGERS, Dr. GREENE R. BERKELEY and R. EMMETT MURRAY.
