Ballance, a well-known mason and contractor of this place, died at the Protestant hospital, Norfolk, yesterday morning at 3:15 o'clock. He had been in failing health for several months and became ill about three weeks ago, at which time he was taken to the hospital for an operation and treatment. He was a native of North Carolina and was about 46 years of age. He, with his father's family, moved to this place about twenty years ago. The deceased leaves a mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Ballance, of Norfolk; three brothers, Greenville Ballance, of Norfolk; Dempsey Ballance, of Boston and Leslie C. Ballance, of this place. He was unmarried. The funeral will be conducted from the residence of his mother in North Main street and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Ballance, who died Thursday morning at the Norfolk Protestant hospital, took place at the residence of his mother, No. 501 North Main street, yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock and was conducted by the Rev. W.H. Edwards. There was a large attendance and a profusion of flowers.
