J. BALLBACK, SR., 68, EX-NAVY COMMANDER NORFOLK - Leonard John Ballback, Sr., 68, of 5340 Powhatan Ave., former Navy commander and a retired public works superintendent of Norfolk Naval Supply Center, died Sunday in a hospital. A native of Louisville, Ky., he lived here 50 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Irene Anne Ballback and a son of John and Mrs. Christine Ballback. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a 46-year member of American Legion Post 36 and member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Leonard John Ballback, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Edith Webb, both of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Rosella Specht of Louisville, Mrs. Catherine Fellman of Terre Haute, Ind., and Mrs. Helen D'Olivio of Miami; a brother, Prston Ballback of Louisville; and a grandchild. The Office of the Dead will be said in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tonight at 7:30. A funeral service will be held in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Wednesday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions made to the Heart Fund, 523 Boush St., Norfolk.
