Norfolk Virginian August 4, 1880

BALLS - At the residence of S.S. Dawes, Esq., Tuesday August 3d, 1880, at 4 1/2 
o'clock p.m., Miss MARY A.M. BALLS.
Her funeral will take place from Christ Church THIS (Wednesday) AFTERNOON at 5 
1/2 o'clock. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.

                    Funeral of Miss Mary A.M. Balls

The funeral of this respected lady took place yesterday afternoon at 5 1/2 
o'clock from Christ Church. Miss Balls had reached quite an advanced age and was 
until within a few years ago, in connection with her sister the late Miss 
Catherine Balls, at the head of a school which was long and favorably known in 
this city so much so, that it is safe to say that comparatively few of the 
members of the generation now just grown up, but what had at some time or other 
been pupils of the Misses Balls.
