NORFOLK - William A. Banks, 65, of 3670 Somme Ave., husband of Mrs. Lottie 
Abidan Banks and son of Morris and the late Mrs. Bessie Katzen Banks, died 
Monday at 2:47 a.m. in a Norfolk hospital.
A native of Portsmouth, he was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a 
retired supervisor of Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Besides his widow and father, he is survived by two sons, Howard Banks of 
Norfolk and Martin Banks of Huntington, W. Va; five daughters, Mrs. Bessie 
Waxler of Cincinnati, Mrs. Rebecca Goldstein, Mrs. Irene Mazel, Miss Gertrude 
Banks and Miss Flora Banks of Norfolk; five sisters, Mrs. Fannie Holzweig, Mrs. 
Sidney Firedland and Mrs. Ben Stoltz of Newport News, Mrs. Nat Scheinman of New 
York and Mrs. Maurice Ronick of Norfolk; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments today at 
noon by Rabbi Israel Bornstein of B'nai Israel Congregation, of which Mr. Banks 
was a member. Burial will be in the B'nai Israel Cemetery. The family will 
assemble at 511 North Shore Road.
