The Norfolk Virginian Pilot November 25, 1954


Mrs. Susan Frances Banks, 77, widow of Col. George W. Banks and daughter of 
Captain Alex and Mary Louise Brooks Winder, died at a Norfolk hospital 
yesterday at 3:45 p.m. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frank W. Allen, of 
Norfolk; three sons, George Herbert Banks, of Norfolk; James F. Banks, of 
Alexandrian and Hobson V. Banks, of Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. W.T.L. 
Shepherd, of Portsmouth, and Mrs. H.C. Clark, of Washington; a brother Capt. 
W.J. Winder, of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Banks was a native of Mathews County, and had been a resident of Norfolk 
most of her life, residing at 608 Redgate Avenue. She was a member of the 
Central Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home tomorrow 
at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood.
