Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 14, 2002
Charles Daniel "Dan" Banwarth III, 70, of the 400 block of W. Chickasaw Road, 
entered peacefully into eternal rest on July 12, 2002, at his residence. 
Dan was a native of Norfolk born on Nov. 3, 1931, to the late Charles Daniel 
"Buster" Banwarth Jr. and Evelyn Williams Banwarth. He was retired from the 
I.L.A. as a checker for Local No. 1624. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed 
tending to his garden. 
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Carol Ann Banwarth; 
his mother, Evelyn Williams Lester of Norfolk; his sons, Charles Fredrick 
Banwarth and his wife, Cindy, Kenneth William Banwarth; his daughter, Leslie 
Elaine Small; his sisters, Geri Banwarth Cutrell and her husband, Del, Joan 
Banwarth Claxton and her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Charles "Buster" 
Banwarth, Jon Michael Banwarth, Christopher Daniel Small, Abbey Lauren Small, 
all of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 
Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Bender officiating, burial will follow in 
Forest Lawn Cemetery. All friends and family are invited back to the family's 
home following the funeral. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at 
the funeral home Monday. 
The family would like to give a special thanks to Heartland Hospice and Dr. 
William W. Gough of NDC Medical Center for the special care given by them. 
Flowers will be accepted or you may make a donation to the American Cancer 
Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513.
