The Virginian-Pilot, Thursday, September 4, 1975

NORFOLK - Joseph Barden Sr. of 203 E. Indian River Road, the husband of Mrs. 
Viola S. Barden and a native of Durham, N.C., died Tuesday in his home.

He worked for Virginia Electric & Power Co. 30 years and was an Army veteran of 
World War II. He was a Baptist.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Jones of Virginia Beach; three sons, 
Joseph Barden Jr., Ricky Barden, and Galento Ruffin of Norfolk; a brother, 
Alphonzo Barden of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. John AME Church, Bute 
Street, by the rev. A.R. Powell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with full 
military honors at the grave. Community Funeral Home has charge.
